In Jackson County felony case 2025CF000112, State of Wisconsin vs. Stan A. Edington, the court has recently taken several steps toward trial on a single count of second degree reckless injury, a Class F felony. After a defense motion to dismiss was fully briefed and argued, Judge Mark Goodman issued an oral ruling on October 20, 2025, denying the motion and finding the complaint meets probable cause. On November 17, 2025, Edington appeared by Zoom with his attorneys, knowingly waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and the court bound the case over for trial. An arraignment is now set for December 29, 2025, at 10:15 a.m. via Zoom, and Edington remains on a 1,000 dollar signature bond.
This hearing will be held via Zoom ONLY. Hearing on December 29, 2025 at 10:15 am.

The District Attorney declined to prosecute BB on seven referred charges, citing both insufficient evidence and a lack of meaningful prosecutorial goal given the circumstances. The letter notes that BB was shot by a deputy during the incident, is now quadriplegic, poses a reduced risk to the community, and would be unlikely to pay restitution or be appropriately housed in the local jail, particularly given his age and lack of prior convictions. The DA also criticizes the quality of the law enforcement reports, explaining that key charges are based on a non witness summary that does not adequately establish criminal intent and that BB’s mother was not treated or documented using standard victim protocols. Overall, the DA concludes that pursuing charges three months after the incident, with incomplete reports and high logistical costs, would be a poor use of justice system resources.
During an oral ruling on October 20, 2025, Judge Mark L. Goodman found that the complaint “meets probable cause,” allowing the case to move forward.
This hearing will be held via Zoom ONLY. Hearing on September 3, 2025 at 03:30 pm.
